HELICAL-PIER® Foundation SystemsDescription
Square-Shaft (SS or HS) HELICAL PIER® Foundation Systems anchors are designed for simple installation and to maximize the load capacity of each helix. Shafts and helices are of steel selected to meet specific installng torques and design loads. Chance screw anchors are effective in compression because soil supports the shafts against buckling.
Only dealers trained and certified by the Chance Company are to install HELICAL PIER® Foundation Systems.
Installing equipment may be a hand-held rotary tool or a digger motor on a utility truck, caisson dril backhoe or skid-steer loader. Important equipment characteristics are torque output, rotational speed, down pressure capability and angle control.
Installation torque can be monitored during anchor installation for production control. An empirical factor is multiplied times the average torque over the final 3 feet of installation to estimate ultimate capacity.
Typical applications are deepened foundation anchors, transmission tower anchors, tiebacks, hold-downs for pipelines and building foundations.
Chance HELICAL PIER® Foundation Systems offer a technically superior and cost-effective alternative to other remedial systems.
HELICAL PIER Foundation Systems may be installed only by contractors who have been certified by the Chance Company. The load-bearing steel shafts are screwed into the ground independent of the structure and their bearing or holding capacity is verified as the system is installed.
HELICAL PIER® Foundation SystemsAdvantages:
- A time-proven, versatile and technically sound system
- Lower cost - both for the system and its installation
- Faster installation than other methods
- Very limited excavation - site is minimally disturbed
- No heavy equipment required
- Installs in limited-access areas
- Used in new home construction to enhance foundation strength on sites with poor soil conditions
